He’d once told me that the art of getting ahead in New York was based on learning how to express dissatisfaction in an interesting way. The air was full of rage and complaint. People had no tolerance for your particular hardship unless you knew how to entertain them with it.

My brother’s in town!!!

After Michelle schemed to get me to go to a “skype event” I ended up being surprised by my little brother whom came to the city all the way from state college to surprise meee.

I am so happy.

You must remember, family is often born of blood, but it doesn’t depend on blood. Nor is it exclusive of friendship. Family members can be your best friends, you know. And best friends, whether or not they are related to you, can be your family.

Vingt-Six

In east on 03/29/2012 at 12:39 am

In the blink of an eye, I turned twenty six. So many good things happened this past year: received my MFA, moved to New York and reunited with my best friend, my other half, Michellita (we’re roommates ya’ll!! so crazy).

I’ve met some really great people along the way and let go of some that no longer were meant to be a part of my world.

All good things for t w e n t y s i x.

WEEK 3

In west on 03/26/2012 at 11:07 pm

I’m not telling you to make the world better, because I don’t think that progress is necessarily part of the package. I’m just telling you to live in it. Not just to endure it, not just to suffer it, not just to pass through it, but to live in it. To look at it. To try to get the picture. To live recklessly. To take chances. To make your own work and take pride in it. To seize the moment. And if you ask me why you should bother to do that, I could tell you that the grave’s a fine and private place, but none I think do there embrace. Nor do they sing there, or write, or argue, or see the tidal bore on the Amazon, or touch their children. And that’s what there is to do and get it while you can and good luck at it.

Things usually make sense in time, and even bad decisions have their own kind of correctness.
