Within 5 minutes of each other, I was asked to return to desired marketing agency for round 3 of interviews, and to interview at Tory Burch.

Both companies are housed in the same amazing building in the Flatiron District. Both on Thursday.

Maaan.  Let one of ’em happen.

There was a tale he had read once, long ago, as a small boy: the story of a traveler who had slipped down a cliff, with man-eating tigers above him and a lethal fall below him, who managed to stop his fall halfway down the side of the cliff, holding on for dear life. There was a clump of strawberries beside him, and certain death above him and below. What should he do? went the question.

And the reply was, Eat the strawberries.

The story had never made sense to him as a boy. It did now.

We join the ranks of Jay Z, Biggie, and Mos Def and sign papers on our new home in Bed-Stuy tomorrow.

It’s been a long week of searching.

Yesterday, I interviewed at a creative agency in DUMBO. One of the owners e-mailed earlier today. After 12 years of living here, he wanted to share his story with someone who is unaccustomed to the lifestyle here.  He offered what comes from time: perspective.

“…The seasons and the harshness of the winter means one thing: If you’re willing to get up, get out, and make it happen here… you are driven, and the chaff will definitely separate from the wheat.  The first year in NYC is tough. It’s a fight. It either makes people go back from whence they came, or persevere and learn to be a more resilient version of the person they were when they first arrived. The goal is not to let NYC change who you are, but to learn who you are no matter what happens.

Just thought you should know – NYC has room for you and who you are.”

Lacy was just as happy alone as with company. When she was alone, she was potential; with others she was realized.

Finished this book on the train ride home from my interview (which seemed to go very well).  Great read.

Most memorable gift?

Love from people I love, both given and received.

As of late, The Sartorialist’s Scott Schuman has been posting Q & A style posts on characters he shoots. My most recent favorite style profile: Angelo Flaccavento.

One of us had loved the other more perfectly, had watched the other more closely, and one of us listened and the other hadn’t, and one of us held on to the ambition of the one idea far longer than was reasonable, whereas the other, passing a garbage can one night, had casually thrown it away.
