SO HOT

In west on 08/27/2011 at 6:51 pm

it is so freaking hot in LA.  i’m still dizzy, though at a much more manageable degree, and will probably continue to feel vertigo drunkeness for a while. saw Atmosphere at the Greek last night, made me think of seeing him with Deneice back in 2006 at Emo’s. gotta love music memories.

‘Go back to bed’, said the omniscient interior voice, because you don’t need to know the final answer right now, at three o’clock in the morning on the Thursday in November. ‘Go back to bed’, because I love you. ‘Go back to bed’, beacause the only thing you need to do for now is get some rest and take good care of yourself until you do know the answer.  e.gilbert

As If I Didn’t Trip Enough

In west on 08/23/2011 at 5:15 pm

When my father was in his early thirties, he experienced his first bout of vertigo; yesterday was my first, five years short of thirty. There’s no definitive cause of vertigo, nor is there a definitive cure – medication to ease the dizziness (that makes you drowsy) and special exercises to relieve the inner ear neurological imbalance. I can only hope this goes away soon and I can return to my normal, non-vertigo clumsiness.

Our Original ‘Mad Men’

In west on 08/14/2011 at 3:08 pm

It would have been legendary adman Bill Bernbach’s 100th birthday tomorrow.

Bernbach is the founder of DDB Worldwide and is regularly hailed as one of the original ‘mad men’: an expression that was barely remembered by the wider populace before the hit television show but is now the go-to phrase for describing any significant ad figure of 1950s or 60s. Bernbach’s talent towered over most of that time, and he is widely acknowledged for leading the creative revolution in advertising. He is also credited for introducing the idea of the creative team structure, still dominant in most agencies today, where copywriters and art directors work together in two-person teams.
