this is the story of your red right ankle
and how it came to meet your leg
and how the muscle bone and sinews tangled
and how the skin was softly shaped
and how it whispered ‘oh, adhere to me
for we are bound by symmetry
and whatever differences our lives have been
we together make a limb
this is the story of your red right ankle

The word “busy” is the relationship Weapon of Mass Destruction. It seems like a good excuse, but in fact, in every silo you uncover, all you’re going to find is a man who didn’t care enough to call. Remember: men are never too busy to get what they want.

We have become a sloppy bunch of people. We say things we don’t mean. We make promises we don’t keep.

you’ve already noticed we have a new contributor on the blog. Analee now represents the mighty fine region of the south — that native state of texas where we met in college. sometimes we cook the same thing the same night without knowing, despite the distance. sometimes we send each other a lot of puppy emojis.

There is nothing I would not do for those who are really my friends. I have no notion of loving people by halves, it is not my nature.

It is forgetting, not remembering, that is the essence of what makes us human. To make sense of the world, we must filter it. “To think,” Borges writes, “is to forget.”

If you were smart, you’d probably spend more time stretching, he said & I said, If I were really smart, I’d probably spend more time just sitting in the shade drinking lemonade.

Real Reason:

There are things you do because they feel right & they may make no sense & they may make no money & it may be the real reason we are here: to love each other & to eat each other’s cooking & say it was good.

I once had a garden filled with flowers that grew only on dark thoughts but they need constant attention & one day I decided I had better things to do.

saturday morning thoughts

If your ceiling should fall down, then you have lost a room, but gained a courtyard. Think of it that way.

She had so much love to give – she had always felt that – and now there was somebody to whom she could give this love, and that, she knew, was good; for that is what redeems us, that is what makes our pain and sorrow bearable – this giving of love to others, this sharing of the heart.

These men were like leeches; they sucked away at the goodness of a woman’s heart until it was dry and all her love had been used up. That took a long time, he knew, because women seemed to have vast reservoirs of goodness in them.

the plague hit on wednesday & still lingers in my body. Lacey came to visit over the weekend, though i wasn’t the ideal host. i cheated with gluten for the first time in 6 weeks to indulge in ramen and i am suffering now. it’s a full lifestyle change, no cheating.
