All the world is birthday cake, so take a piece but not too much. George Harrison

Why do people move? What makes them uproot and leave everything they’ve known for a great unknown beyond the horizon? Why climb this Mount Everest of formalities that makes you feel like a beggar? Why enter this jungle of foreignness where everything is new, strange and difficult? The answer is the same the world over: people move in hope of a better life.

It’s important in life to conclude things properly. Only then can you let go. Otherwise you are left with words you should have said but never did, and your heart is heavy with remorse.
The world isn’t just the way it is. It is how we understand it, no? And in understanding something, we bring something to it, no? Doesn’t that make life a story?
The paths to liberation are numerous, but the bank along the way is always the same, the Bank of Karma, where the liberation account of each of us is credited or debited depending on our actions.

went to Joseph Gordon Levitt’s event on Monday night. pretty interesting evening with a variety of performances. notable guest performances included: Anne Hathaway and Sia singing, Neil Patrick Harris in a skit, and Gary Oldman reading a short story. everyone attending was dressed to the nine’s, except for my date whose shirt was ripped.
our friend Joseph is adorable, yes, but mann, he sure loves himself and it was a bit hard to see past that.

I could hear everything, together with the hum of my hotel neon. I never felt sadder in my life. LA is the loneliest and most brutal of American cities; New York gets godawful cold in the winter but there’s a feeling of wacky comradeship somewhere in some streets. LA is a jungle. Kerouac
It is often said that New York is a city for only the very rich and the very poor. It is less often said that New York is also, at least for those of us who came there from somewhere else, a city for only the very young. Didion
Behind the desk was nothing but view-the whole city flung out in front of us the way street vendors fling out their towels packed with cheap, glittery watches and belts. That’s how New York looked: like gorgeous, easy thing to have, even for me. Egan

Deneice was in LA this week. We accomplished: seeing Bon Iver perform Monday night (spotting Charlie from LOST, and Vince from Entourage), beach/seafood overload at Paradise Cove in Malibu, Comedy Bang Bang at the UCB (with a Sarah Silverman performance), the Getty, introducing her to true Middle Eastern food, dranks and dancing, a killer shopping spree, and one perfect meal at Bottega Louie with my favorites.
Hurry back.
