I said, I want to tell you something.
She said, you can tell me tomorrow.
I had never told her how much I loved her.
She was my sister.
We slept in the same bed.
There was never a right time to say it.
It was always unnecessary.
The books in my father’s shed were sighing.
The sheets were rising and falling around me with Anna’s breathing.
I thought about waking her.
But it was unnecessary.
There would be other nights.
And how can you say I love you to someone you love?
I rolled onto my side and fell asleep next to her.
Here is the point of everything I have been trying to tell you: it’s always necessary.

No matter where I was, my compass pointed west. I would always know what time it was in California.

LA < NY

Tomorrow, the dream finally becomes a reality: I move to New York.

Interestingly enough, my former boss called today and asked if I would be willing to stay in LA for another month and work as my replacement had just been fired. (no)

Most touching, though, may have been my father’s parting words: if you need to stay in NYC for 20 years because you are happy, then do so. You are ready – and have earned this right to live your life just as you always hoped.

on Not Having Iroha One More Time

I know that’s what people say– you’ll get over it. I’d say it, too. But I know it’s not true. Oh, you’ll be happy again, never fear. But you won’t forget. Every time you fall in love it will be because something in the man reminds you of him.

When the world grew bigger, and there wasn’t enough string to keep the things people wanted to say from disappearing into the vastness, the telephone was invented.

Sometimes no length of string is long enough to say the thing that needs to be said. In such cases all the string can do, in whatever its form, is conduct a person’s silence.

Learn this from me. Holding anger is a poison. It eats you from inside. We think that hating is a weapon that attacks the person who harmed us. But hatred is a curved blade. And the harm we do, we do to ourselves.
