words from wonderland, love alice

If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is because everything would be what it isn’t. And contrary-wise; what it is it wouldn’t be, and what it wouldn’t be, it would. You see?

What’s the first thing Marina Abramović does after a day at MoMA?

In east on 05/17/2010 at 1:07 pm

600 hours/ Abramović sits in silence with anyone who braves her encounter. After watching Abramović take part in the longest staring contest of the century yesterday at MoMA part of the conversation had was “what does Marina Abramović do when she gets off work?” My friend and I joked a bit about this/ perhaps she goes home puts on some sweats/slumps on her couch and eats a T.V. dinner/ pops in a dvd- doubtful but filled with the intensity of staring at peoples souls for 600 hours has to come with some sort of comedic relief ..something “human.”

What do you think Abramović does after work?

I went to the National Gallery of Art today. I have never been moved by a Rothko piece like this before. It was the most penetrating profound moment. I felt a push on my chest. I was lost in the vastness of dark colors yet I was housed within its space- safe.

A Sudden Gust of Wind, 1993

Jeff Wall isn’t obviously autobiographical: he may depict moments of great release but does not, in his work, fling his personal papers into the air.
